Mission and Vision

Mission

The foremost purpose of Center for Reading and Literacy is to improve the reading and literacy achievement of all citizens by providing support to relevant state agencies, regional offices of education, employers, community groups and local school districts in isolating and implementing research-grounded best practices.

Vision

Our vision is for a society that celebrates the multi literacies of all citizens while providing access to the literate practices that enable meaningful participation in schools, workplaces, homes and other aspects of life.

Goals

The Center has four primary goals:

  1. Provide services to policymakers in the areas of reading and literacy,
  2. Provide services to the state of Illinois in the areas of reading and literacy,
  3. Provide services to professional educators in the areas of reading and literacy, and
  4. Support research among university faculty and members of the wider research community which will broaden understandings of reading, literacy and literacy education.
